Unstoppable. Jarosław "R0e0endeR" Wosik continues to enhance "F-16 Falcon Strike" with the release of version 1.4.0, an update that reinforces the depth and realism of this flight simulator for Atari 8-bit.

One of the most notable changes impacts the radar and target locking system in the "WEAPON REALISM" difficulty option (previously known as "WEAPONS STRENGTH"). Now, only targets within the radar's frontal detection cone (128 degrees) can be locked. If a target goes outside this range, the message "LOCK LOST" appears, demanding greater precision in handling the aircraft.

Ballistics have also received a significant overhaul. Unguided cannon and rocket shots' trajectories are now affected by gravity, causing players to adjust their aim based on the distance to the target. Additionally, cannon shells fly three times slower, forcing players to anticipate enemy movements. To facilitate this mechanic, a new circular marker has been included in the air-to-air (A2A) combat HUD.

As for missions, the first campaign mission has been improved for the medium and hard levels of the "ENEMY AMOUNT" (number of enemies), with better location of enemy aircraft. Also, the initial zoom of the radar has been adjusted to a greater range, which expands tactical options.

Version 1.4.0 also brings a number of performance optimizations. Advanced techniques have been implemented, such as skipping the drawing of objects out of view and improving screen synchronization, which now waits only for the completion of the 3D portion of the view instead of the entire redrawing process. These optimizations not only make the game smoother, but also increase accuracy and response speed in critical situations.

On the other hand, Wosik has changed the compression algorithm for all images and music in the game, managing to reduce the file size without compromising quality. Minor visual tweaks have also been made, such as improving the design of the HUD scoreboard in air-to-air mode and increasing the pitching moment during stalls.

The update also introduces minor but relevant changes, such as the correction in mission messages ("YOU HAVE LANDED") and clear specifications on the distribution conditions on the screen "About".
With significant adjustments to combat mechanics and technical optimizations, this new iteration of "F-16 Falcon Strike" continues to consolidate the title as a benchmark on the platform.
