The development of this mini-game, according to "Popmilo", was an exciting project that took about a month. "I had never worked with high-resolution scrolling screens before; it was fun, especially with the parallax effect and the sprite of Tony on the cart," he told Atariteca. He also pointed out that the most difficult part was fitting everything into the limited memory of the Atari XL/XE, but the result has been impressive.
Inspired by the classics of the 80s, «Tony: Montezuma's Gold»follows the adventures of Tony Halik on an epic treasure hunt in an ancient Aztec civilization. This game won the prestigious AMD Pixel Awards Europe 2024 competition in the “Retro Roots” category, being unanimously praised for its gameplay and aesthetics. With graphics created by Rafał Dudek and music by Michał “Caruso” Brzezicki, the game has been a gem for retro platforming enthusiasts.
“Tony GO” is a natural extension of that legacy. Initially available only for PAL systems, it will be released for free after the event. Retro Granie Night, taking place from October 10-12 in Poland. Those who already own “Tony: Montezuma's Gold” will receive a code to download it on itch.io, where they will also have access to future updates. In addition, a cassette edition will be released for the most ardent collectors.
