After a year of waiting, Kamil "Kamilos" Nowiński has kept his promise to Atari 8-bit users: the full version of «Dangerous City» is now available for free download.
“Dangerous City” puts players behind the wheel of a vehicle in a labyrinthine city seen from above. The goal is to escape the city by collecting items scattered around the streets and using them in the right places to unlock new areas and solve puzzles. In addition to solving puzzles, players must manage fuel and avoid excessive damage to their car, as both factors can end the game. With over 70 screens to explore, every decision counts in this urban odyssey. While there is no time limit, the key to success lies in maintaining a balance between exploration and resource conservation.
Control is intuitive: you choose the direction with the joystick and press the fire button to move forward. To pick up objects, just roll over them. You can also turn the music on or off with the key.M, restart the game withESCand use objects with the number keys1to4
The game has a curious history. It was originally developed in 1994 with the intention of being published by Polish companies LK Avalon or Mirage, but it never saw the light of day. Kamil prepared two almost identical versions: "Dangerous City" for LK Avalon and "City Dangerous" for Mirage, but both companies stopped producing games for Atari without giving any response to the author.

In this 2023 version, the game has been rewritten in MADS, improving the original Quick Assembler code. The team has added important improvements: fuel consumption has been optimized to allow for smoother exploration, screen graphics have been improved, and new features have been added such as object numbering, fuel and damage icons, and an English version. All this, together with the incorporation of secret passwords that facilitate the player's progress.
The authors of this release include, in addition to Kamilos, Krzysztof "Kaz" Ziembik, who was responsible for the cover art and loading menus, and Jakub Husak, who was responsible for the cartridge. The music was composed by Konrad Gmurek, and the map and storyboard design was done by Kamil and his brother Hubert Nowiński. The box art was done by Rafał Dudek and Piotr "Piter" Krużycki, who also did the DTP composition.
This release is especially significant for the Atari 8-bit community, as the original edition, released in 2023 in physical format with box, paper map, instructions and stickers, was received with great enthusiasm by collectors. Now, both the Polish and English versions of this game, along with a black and white version from the 1990s, are freely available for download.
Those interested in the game's development history can explore more details in the repository Author's GitHub, where the original files are also available.
