Led by Drunkeneye, "The Real Mafia" has released version 1.1 of "Mafia" for Atari 8-bit computers, featuring a number of improvements that enhance both gameplay and visual experience.
Mafia is a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements, set in 1930s Chicago during the Prohibition era. Players take on the role of aspiring mobsters who, through robbery, extortion and other illegal activities, must earn respect and rise in the criminal world. Throughout the game, players move around an interactive map, using a variety of weapons and tactics to defeat their rivals and control the city.
Notable new features in this new version include an improved map, with new sprites and icons that offer a more polished and attractive look. Joystick sensitivity has also been adjusted, allowing for more precise control of characters and easier navigation.
Loading and saving functionality has been optimized, and weapon adjustments have been made, adding greater variety to combat options. Colors in different locations have been adjusted, bringing greater visual coherence to the game's environments. Additionally, the game's ending has been fixed, providing a more satisfying conclusion for those who manage to become the crime boss. Drunkeneye has invited players to share any bugs, improvements, or suggestions via GitHub, highlighting the collaborative approach that has characterized the development of the project.
It is worth noting that “Mafia” took second place in the Atari XL/XE Games competition during the Silly Venture 2024 SE festival, with a total score of 7,222 points.
