Normal Distribution, the company founded by the legendary Robert Jaeger, has released version 1.12 of the demo for “Montezuma’s Revenge – Director’s Cut,” a revamped version of the classic 1983 Parker Brothers game. This update introduces several improvements that enhance the gameplay experience and fixes issues reported by players.
Notable changes include corrected animations for the Montezuma boss for 1280x1024 resolutions, improving visual fluidity at these settings. Additionally, text translation and scaling have been adjusted, ensuring a more consistent experience across all supported languages, including Spanish, Polish, German, and English.
Another notable improvement is the reduction in the volume of background sound, which some users found uncomfortable in the initial release. A key feature has also been added: explosive pots can now kill nearby spiders, adding an extra layer of strategy during pyramid exploration.
Finally, the color palette of the butterfly in the boss battle against Montezuma has been adjusted, now resembling the tones of the Citheronia azteca, a native species of Mexico. This demo, which features only the first level of the nine that will be available in the full version, still gives players a taste of the vast world that can be explored. The first level is the easiest and features fewer rooms, but as players progress, sections of the pyramid expand, adding new challenges like laser walls and bridges.
Battles against Montezuma also scale in difficulty, starting with two rounds on the first level and reaching up to 9 rounds on the final level, each with a unique layout and increasing difficulty.
The full version of Montezuma’s Revenge – Director’s Cut, featuring nearly 100 rooms and nine levels, will be available in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can enjoy this exciting updated demo, where every jump, enemy defeated and puzzle solved will take you one step closer to Montezuma’s treasure.
