During the recent Silly Venture 2024 SE festival, the video for “Mafia” was presented, taking second place in the Atari XL/XE Games competition with 7,222 points.

This title, originally developed by Igelsoft for the Commodore 64 in 1986, has been successfully ported to the Atari 8-bit computers by the group "The Real Mafia".

“Mafia” offers an immersive mix of RPG and turn-based strategy, set in dangerous Prohibition-era Chicago. Players, up to four in total, can roam the city, engage in criminal activities such as bank robberies, and complete special missions such as assassinating the mayor or running a gun race.

Requiring 64kB of RAM and a floppy drive, the game stands out not only for its rich gameplay, but also for its soundtrack adapted by Andrzej "Andy" Kidaj and Marcin "Cedyń" Czartyński, who have managed to maintain the tense and immersive atmosphere of the original. Adam Wachowski, meanwhile, provided technical support and Polish localization, ensuring an immersive gaming experience for Atari gamers.
The presentation of the first beta in May by AtariAge forum user Drunkeneye had already sparked the interest of the community; and its success at Silly Venture 2024 SE confirms the great work done on this adaptation, which fuses nostalgia and challenge in the same package.
