The DCart is an innovative cartridge for Atari 8-bit computers, designed by GienekP, which seeks to offer a simple and efficient solution for those who wish to expand the capabilities of their computer.

This cartridge, with a capacity of 512kB of flash memory, arises from the need for a device that is easy to use, cheap, and compatible with the tools and standards already existing in the retro community.

The vast number of cartridge standards that exist for the Atari 8-bit can be overwhelming. However, GienekP identified an opportunity to create a cartridge that not only meets the criteria of simplicity and efficiency, but is also easy to build and accessible to hobbyists. The DCart is designed with "through hole" components, making it easy to assemble even with basic tools.

The DCart utilizes a single 512kB flash memory chip and a programmable control chip (GAL), allowing for efficient control logic and simplified PCB layout. Additionally, the cartridge is fully compatible with SpartaDOS-X and Maxflash Studio, allowing users to easily create and load their own program compilations onto the cartridge.

One of the key improvements introduced by GienekP is the ability to control the memory bank via write, eliminating the possibility of errors when accidentally reading from the cartridge. In addition, the DCart includes a write-protect switch, similar to that of a floppy disk, and supports the "HardReset" extension.

DCart is a completely open source project, meaning it can be used for educational, hobby, and even commercial purposes. All documentation, files, and supporting tools are available on the GienekP website
