After more than two years on hiatus, Paul "Playsoft" Lay (code and graphics) and Bobby "Synthpopalooza" Clark (sound effects) took up the project again to bring the classic "Galaga" (Namco, 1981) to Atari 8-bit computers and the Atari 5200 console.

As seen in the shared file in the AtariAge forum, several crucial improvements have been added: collision detection (enemy shots can now hit correctly) and our ship can withstand up to two enemy shots.

Also included in this trailer is an improved scoring system - which even displays bonus points for eliminating the last ship in each wave - and optimized sound, to offer a richer, more arcade-like experience.

In Galaga, the sheer number of sprites moving at speed simultaneously on screen is impressive. The trailer is surprising, with a very colorful set of sprites and gameplay very close to that of arcade games.

The source code is available at the Atari 5200 forum, allowing other developers to contribute and refine this ambitious project.
