It also incorporates elements that will keep players hooked, such as totems needed to complete levels (dubbed "the challenge of the Three Masks") and nine stages featuring the long-awaited confrontation with King Montezuma.

"Parker Bros. cut my game down to fit 8k cartridges. The Director's Cut is my complete vision for Montezuma's Revenge, with almost every room new or vastly improved, a final boss, and many new features. This is truly a new Montezuma game," Jaeger said in a statement. Interview for Gog.comin December 2023.

The game is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2024, along with the "40th Anniversary" version - with modern graphics and more complex rooms with new challenges - for various consoles and computers.

In a brief statement to Atariteca, Jaeger revealed that the game will be released initially for PC. He also left open the possibility of a version for Atari 8-bit computers. "I know that everyone wants (the game on) the Atari 800 (...) If things go well, I still plan to do it."
