We have the latest updates on Agent Wander, the platform game developed by Jacob Copsey for Atari 8-bit computers, which now features 25 action-packed levels.
Version 0.9 has introduced significant improvements, ensuring that the game runs smoothly on both NTSC and PAL systems. This adjustment has been crucial, as the game's original design for NTSC caused timing and colour issues on PAL machines. To address this, Copsey has implemented a color table that changes if PAL hardware is detected, and tweaked the game engine's update logic to maintain consistent gameplay. Notable new features include five additional levels, as well as the introduction of a new "super slug" enemy, which first appears on level 21. Additionally, adjustments have been made to scoring and game time balance, as well as the addition of sound effects when rocks disappear and reappear when walked on.
The author doesn't stop there, though. Future goals include a scoreboard that saves to disk to persist between game sessions; a built-in custom level editor; and, of course, the addition of a theme song for the game's introduction.
Copsey continues to work towards fulfilling his childhood dream of creating a professional-quality game for our beloved Atari 8-bit computers. With each update, Agent Wander comes closer to that ideal, offering a rich and rewarding gaming experience for all home computer enthusiasts.
