Challenging mechanics, new enemies and support for multiple languages are some of the new features of “Time Wizard Deluxe,” a game in development for Atari 8-bit computers.
Through the AtariAge forum, Krzysztof "Amarok" Piotrowski (Poland) has shared a series of videos, where we can see the progress of this extended edition of his acclaimed game "Time Wizard".In addition to horizontal portals, disappearing stairs have been added that can be activated by pressing buttons or automatically over time. Buttons with timers have also been added, which turn something on or off for a period of up to 5 seconds.
There are now slightly smarter enemies that follow your movements and try to block your path. You can trick them by rewinding or fast-forwarding your timeline and be faster than the robots.
Translations into French, German, Italian and Spanish have been added, for which the author redesigned the game's font in terms of diacritical characters.
One of the most exciting news is that Time Wizard Deluxe will be available in a physical cartridge edition, especially aimed at collectors; in addition, a free digital version will be released for Atari enthusiasts.
"I would be happy if more people could play Time Wizard Deluxe. I know that only a few of them will buy the physical cartridge, mainly as a collective object. I don't need to make money making things for Atari. I have my job for that," the author told Atariteca. As for gameplay, the premise of the game remains the same: manipulate time to take on futuristic robots and stop them from altering history. However, there is no doubt that the changes will add an additional layer of complexity and fun to the game, further challenging players' skill and dexterity.
Finally, Amarok has shared version 1.8 of its level editor; it encourages the Atari community to develop their own levels to be included in the final version of this extended edition of Time Wizard. Those interested in participating in the project can contact Piotrowski via the AtariAge forum. It is worth noting that “Time Wizard” has received important awards and recognitions, consolidating itself as one of the most outstanding games in the Atari scene. Among its achievements are the first place in the prestigious Atari Bit Byter User Club (ABBUC) 2023, as well as in the FujiCup 2023. In addition, it was awarded as the Best Atari 8-Bit/5200 Homebrew Game at the sixth edition of the Atari Homebrew Awards.
