After four years of dedicated development, Mariusz "Mq" Ejchsztet (Poland) has released the first fully-fledged version of his game Dude Story with complete mechanics and a fully-developed storyline.
Launched in December 2019, this project stands out for its intriguing narrative, where the main objective is to find three chests and access the castle's treasure. Dude, the protagonist, must solve a network of puzzles, collect items and avoid obstacles and enemies, including animated spiders and wasps.
Using tools like GraphicsGale and Mad Pascal, and through extensive research and experimentation, Ejchsztet was able to create and animate the characters and world of Dude Story.
In 2021, "Mq" shared significant progress, including the completion of background animations, improved character control, and the implementation of music and sound effects. Memory management was another technical challenge. Just like the first demo of "Dude Story," the final version runs on a standard Atari with 64kB of RAM.

Although the game is complete in terms of mechanics and plot, the author notes that there are still graphical elements pending. These include animation of a waterfall on the island, graphics in the underwater world, obstacles in the second part of the castle, and the planned introduction and conclusion sequences.
Due to the memory limitations of the Atari 8-bit computers, these elements have not yet been incorporated, requiring further optimization. However, this version allows players to experience the story from beginning to end.

Ejchsztet has released an English version of the game – which is excellent news for Atari XL/XE fans who don't speak Polish, as the Dude Story contains important texts that offer clues on how to progress through the adventure.
"In the near future, I'll be working a bit more on improving the missing graphical elements and enemies in the second part of the castle and in the water; but first I need to refactor the code to get some free memory space. So, for now, the game is as is; but stay tuned for the future version 1.1 with improvements, and then for the version 2.0 on cartridge," he announced.in the AtariAge forum
