The Atari fan community is in for a treat: a promising conversion of the game "Cyborg Warriors", originally released in 1991 for the BBC Micro, has been announced for the Atari 8-bit computers.

Behind this ambitious project is "Vega1", a user of the forums of the Polish portal Atari Online, who in mid-December last year embarked on the challenge of porting the game published 33 years ago by Superior/Acornsoft.

Vega1 has shared two videos showing two players facing off against various enemies in this horizontal shooter, which shares similarities with the acclaimed «Zybex» (Zeppelin Games, 1988). The initiative features the collaboration of Krzysztof "KAZ" Ziembik, who is improving the graphics; and Michael "Miker" Szpilowski, who is in charge of the music and sound effects.

Unlike the original, which only had sound effects, the Atari version will allow music on three channels and sound effects on a fourth. Work is also underway on debugging and optimizing the code to speed up the game.

Separately, "Vega1" plans to improve the title image, which will likely be replaced with an image created with Graph2Font, using a 40x24 character mode (5 colors). Additionally, he hopes to add seven new level bosses, as the original Cyborg Warriors only had one despite having eight levels.

It is interesting to note that Cyborg Warriors did not have a standalone release on the BBC Micro, but was included in the Play It Again Sam 15 compilation, along with The Last Ninja 2, Ricochet and Network.
