Seventh place: «Inkspill»
Author: Vladimir "Popmilo" Janković (Serbia)Genre: Puzzle
Inspired by the game “Pico8”, “Inkspill” offers an intriguing puzzle experience. Players must fill the entire screen with a single color, attempting to accomplish this feat in as few moves as possible. If you need more than 12 moves, you will have to restart the level from scratch. Remaining attempts are shown by yellow icons on the left side of the screen. Points: 471 / Prize: €145.75.
Eighth place: «RetroMaze»
Author: Peter "RetroCoder" HinzGenre: Labyrinths
The basic idea of this game was a programming challenge: draw a 3D-looking maze using only ASCII characters. Challenge yourself with 15 increasingly intricate mazes; collect items to unlock the exit; and find chests with useful items. You'll also encounter ghosts that can be traded with or simply attacked for their loot; and vortex jumps that take you to new locations. Each level is unique and never repeats.Points: 440 / Prize: €136.16.
Ninth place: «Rotor»
Author: Freddy "F#READY" Offenga and Ivo "ivop" van Poorten (Netherlands)Genre: Competition / Action
Transport yourself to the year 2102, where underground miners compete in friendly competition using drone tools known as rotors. Compete against a colleague by bouncing a colored ball through pipes to determine the National Rotor Champion (when you've scored 11 points). Points: 433 / Prize: €133.99.
Tenth place: «DotA»
Author: Martin "MatoSimi" Å imecek (Slovakia)Genre: Puzzle
Inspired by a mobile game called «Point». Dive into this fascinating game where your goal is to connect dots, complete patterns and discover the invisible dot. Each dot has its own letter - such as dot C, dot B, etc. - but once you find dot A, you advance to the next level. What's special about this game is that there are multiple software sprites (high resolution) that must point to the invisible target. The name refers to the well-known MOBA "Defense of the Ancients" from «Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos» (2002). Points: 394 / Prize: € 121.92.
Eleventh place: «Numeru»
Author: Peter "RetroCoder" HinzGenre: Puzzle
Test your number-matching skills in this Atari 8-bit version of “Tetravex.” Arrange nine tiles in a 3x3 grid, making sure the numbers and colors on the edges line up perfectly. Once you have 12 matches, the level is complete. Each level is unique and never repeats. Points: 383 / Prize: €118.52.
Without a doubt, every entry at ABBUC 2023 showed innovation and passion. This is a unique opportunity to experience the best of the Atari community and enjoy innovative and creative titles. Congratulations to all the contestants and especially to “Time Wizard” for leading the pack!
