The winter edition of the Silly Venture 2023 festival, held from December 7 to 10 in Gdansk, Poland, once again highlighted the passion and talent in the community of developers and enthusiasts of Atari 8-bit computers.
In the Games competition, first place went to “Planet Rescue Mission” created by ZdenÄ›k “Zdenda” Zubr (Czech Republic), which achieved an impressive total of 7,529 points.
The game requires an Atari 8-bit computer equipped with the Rambo XL 1 Mb memory expansion, plus an "AVG SUB" cartridge connected via a PBI cable, for an additional 64 kB of external memory.
"When I finished it, I had about three weeks of free time before Mark "Poison" Pesout created the music and sounds for this simple game," says Zubr.on their website
Following closely behind in second place was “MyJewels” (version sv23we), a collaboration between Christian “Buddy” Duesterhoeft and Ralf “PPs” Patschke (Germany), which scored 6,087 points. The authors announced plans to release an improved version for devices with more than 16 kB of RAM, raising expectations in the community.
Third place went to ZdendaZuma 2 - Datadisk 7 by Zvenda "Zdenda" Zubr, with 5,522 points. This sequel to the challenging platformer Zdenda's Montezuma captured the public's attention and recognition.
It is worth mentioning that datadisk 7 (as well as datadisk 2) was created entirely by his son Tobik. "Zdenda" has also programmed a room editor in C#.Net to create all datadisks.
These results not only reflect the talent and creativity in the Atari 8-bit scene, but also keep the magic of these computers alive. Silly Venture has established itself as a must-attend event for retrocomputing enthusiasts, where nostalgia meets innovation.
