The new Omicron XE case combines the aesthetics of the Atari 2600 console and the lines of the Atari XE series computers.

The case was designed by Leonardo Vettori and Gianluca Renzi (Italy) during the pandemic. Its name comes from the fact that it was launched during the expansion of the aforementioned COVID-19 variant; that is, towards the end of 2021.

Renzi explains that the case features a custom mechanical keyboard, the layout of which is based on the Atari 400 and Atari 800 computers.

The Omicron XE was presented at the sixth edition of Modena Nerd, an event held on September 10 and 11, 2022. Renzi regretted having to disappoint the many people interested in purchasing a copy of the case.

"The problem is the extremely high cost of the moulds and the minimal number of pieces in each one (...) Unfortunately, it is a long, laborious process and also not exactly economical (...) Each individual mould has an average cost of several thousand euros," he explained.

However, the Italian programmer is planning to launch a Kickstarter to raise funds to mass produce the Omicron XE.
