User "Glurk" from the AtariAge forum surprises us with the port of «Fast Food» (Telesys, 1982) for Atari XL/XE series computers.
The player controls a pair of lips, called Mighty Mouth, with which he must devour fast food that crosses the screen. As more is consumed, the speed increases. Purple pickles must be avoided: after eating six, the game is over.
Via the AtariAge forum, "Glurk" explained that it was ported in an "extremely straightforward manner, using P/M sprites and nothing else, no DMA, no playfield, no fonts, or anything beyond PMG."
He also indicated that this conversion uses his "48 Pixel Kernel" idea in 8-bit for the display of scores and vertical scrolling messages.
"Specifically, it uses the 4 'player' sprites, and the 'missile' sprites combined as the fifth; and then reuses a 'player 0' sprite precisely twice on the same scan line for a total of 6 8-bit wide sprites. This recreates the '48px' so common on the 2600," he said.
This is the seventh port developed by user "Glurk": «Barnstorming» (Activision, 1982); «Frostbite» (Activision, 1983); «Fishing Derby» (Activision, 1980); «Freeway» (Activision, 1981); «Tennis» (Activision, 1981); and «StarMaster» (Activision, 1982).
