Update of the port of «VicDoom» for Atari 8-bit

Krzysztof "Saint" Święcicki shares an update to the 3D engine of his in-development port of "VicDoom" for Atari 8-bit computers.

As we havepreviously reviewed in AtaritecaŚwięcicki's project is based on the version originally made for the Commodore VIC-20 of the classic first-person shooter.

As detailed in the forum of the AtariOnline portal, the game field was increased fourfold, at the expense of resolution. It also added coloured indicators on the sides of the screen.

In addition, Saint rewrote all the logic from scratch, including the collision system of opponents with walls; the calculations of fireballs; the intercollision stack of the player's walls, among other procedures.

To do this, he had to rewrite 18,000 lines in ASMA, which involved modifying the code for the interconnections between the player and the walls and the sectors or the rivals and the walls, and all the artificial intelligence in the project.

"The most important thing for me is that everything takes as little processor time as possible and this is difficult when you are dealing with a hell of calculations (...) Anyway, I am not giving up and now I will fight with a higher horizontal resolution and then we will see what to do next," he said.
