GMG, the team behind Final Assault, has released a new version of its notable first-person shooter for Atari 8-bit computers.

How we report at the beginning of November 2021This 3D action FPS puts us in the role of a super soldier fighting against an alienated artificial intelligence.

The first thing that stands out in this version 1.1 of «Final Assault» are the lighting effects when using the different types of weapons. For example, the rockets of the bazooka illuminate the path as they fly towards their target.

Robert "Globe" Pecnik, who was in charge of the code and graphics, highlighted the tweaks to the gameplay dynamics: the time from when the player is detected by the enemy until the enemy attacks him was increased.

As for the graphics, the ceiling and floors look darker and less dithered for more practical navigation, while the intro music now plays at the correct speed on NTSC systems.
Also fixed a subroutine that caused the game to freeze on some emulators, as well as a bug in the intro text that read "balance

Finally, the package includes a version developed specifically for those lucky ones who own the SNES Atari Controller Kit (SNACK) Christian "Irgendwer" Krüger (Germany) said: "A normal joystick is not ideal for this type of game; with the SNES gamepad, the controls are easier to handle and there are plenty of buttons for everything."
