Avery "Phaeron" Lee shares the final version of his port of «Cosmic Ark» (Imagic, 1982) for Atari 8-bit computers.
AsWe reported earlier in AtaritecaLee got the idea from a thread on the AtariAge forum by user "Glurk" - who asked how to achieve the star-studded background that characterizes "Cosmic Ark."
As he explained, the star background now uses horizontal scrolling to avoid having to shift writes to the playfield buffers, which in turn allows for player replication without overlap.
"Some of the buffers also have duplicated pixels to emulate the twinkling (of stars). The double pixel and replication patterns are similar but not exact to the original, which is difficult to implement accurately," Phaeron noted.in the AtariAge forum-where you can find more technical details.
