Atari: Bone Cruncher and other news from FLOP 66 magazine

Seven new games for Atari 8-bit and a tribute to the late Petr "HardCore" Postava (Czech Republic) is what we find in issue number 66 of the FLOP electronic magazine.

The three-disc package features a port of the logic game "Bone Cruncher", published by Superior Software (1987) for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro and Commodore 64 systems.

"Momo", the game's protagonist, must collect skeletons inside his castle to make soap. He then delivers his product to the monsters located at the various exits. You have "Fozzy" as a helper to avoid contact with spiders and other enemies.

«Bone Cruncher» uses the mechanics of «Boulder Dash» (First Star Software, 1984); the difference is that, although the characters are seen in profile, the objects interact with each other from above - so they are not subject to gravity in the same way. Postava, FrantiÅ¡ek «Fandal» Houra and Jose Pereira participated in this port.

Another new feature is the return of Zdeněk "Zdenda" Zubr, who has been away from the Atari scene for several years. He offers us a short but challenging platform game called "Zdenda's Montezuma".

The game package is completed by Bombeeno, Fire Fighter Tobík, Robbery, Ufon and MultiJoy Roulette. The first disc features a summary of Atari-related events held in 2021; technical articles on sound chips in 8-bit computers, how to run a Turbo binary and a joystick tester. Also featured are reviews of Atari games. «Castle Defender» and “Fruity Pete.”

Finally, we cannot fail to mention the small collection of photos from "HardCore" on the third disc; apart from the eye-catching intro made by Antonin "R0ger" Holik.

To load the second ATR games, when you see the blue screen, press the Return key until the cursor is activated. Then, type the name of the program with COM extension (for example, BC) and press Return again.
