    Download the ABBUC 2021 contest games

    Unexpectedly, this Saturday the results of the 2021 edition of the retro contest organized by the Atari Bit Byter User Club – ABBUC (Germany) were announced.


    The winner of the software category was “Gacek”, by Janusz “Shanti77” Chabowski (Poland) – who takes first place at ABBUC for the second year in a row.

    This improved port of «Bomb Jack» (Tecmo, 1984) can be run on an Atari 8-bit computer with standard 64 Kb memory.

    Second place at ABBUC 2021It was for “Fallen Kingdom”, a logic game written by Martin “Matosimi” Å imecek (Slovakia).

    The author explains that this version has fixed several bugs; added keyboard controls (using the W, A, S and D keys); a couple of new levels, as well as a final screen.

    Third"Kowalsky's Fury 2" by Kamil "Gorgh" Trzaska (Poland), a sequel to the action game thatranked second in ABBUC 2018. The music is by Michał "Caruso" Brzezicki.

    The fourth locationwas for “Blokz”, a game that mixes logic and shooting by Vladimir “Popmilo” Jankovic (Serbia).

    Varius, written by Holger "janzh" Janz (Germany), became thesixth place in the competition

    Seventh place at ABBUC 2021 went to “Robot Dungeon 2121,” submitted by brothers Robert and Eric Anschuetz together with John Weisgerber. This is the assembly language version of a game originally written in BASIC and published in the disk edition of Antic magazine in November 1985.

    And closing the list is «Kooky Klimber 2021», a game based on «Crazy Climber» (Nichibutsu, 1980) and also made by the Anschuetz-Weisgerber team. For the record, the original was acquired by COMPUTE! magazine in 1983. However, it was never published and ended up being returned to its authors.

    The annual general meeting of the German club was originally scheduled for October 16, 2021 in the city of Herten. However, Dutchman Fred "Fred_M" Meijer - responsible for the renowned AtariMuseum website -shared on the AtariAge foruman email informing him that the meeting had been rescheduled for December 18.


    However, to everyone's surprise, Sascha "skr" Kriegel, organizer of the ABBUC retro contest, published a video on Saturday in which the winners were chosen and the corresponding prizes were awarded, amounting to almost 2,850 euros.
