Detailed graphics, powerful music and fluid movement are highlighted in the conversion of "W.A.R.", a single-player vertical shoot'em up, for Atari 8-bit computers.
Czechs Frantisek "Fandal" Houra (code and graphics) and Marek “Poison” Pesout (music and sound effects) are responsible for this port, made from the BBC Micro version.
As you can see, they used graphics mode 8, which has a higher definition, but a palette limited to two colors. However, it fits perfectly with the unusual format of the game - with a rectangular interior screen in two different shades to the exterior.
«W.A.R.» was originally developed by Michael Archer for Software Communications and released in 1986 by Martech Games Ltd. There is no further information about the game, except what is known.review the Dodax website"It was revolutionary when it came out because, although it was monochrome and the gameplay was very tight, the graphical detail and smooth hardware scrolling of this top-down shooter had not been seen before."

There were also versions of "WAR" for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. The latter supported the use of the AMX mouse, a three-button mouse marketed from 1985 by the British company Advanced Memory Systems.
As an anecdote, Martech published the same year "Samantha Fox Strip Poker", a famous adult card game starring the English singer and model from the late 1980s.
