"Alien Assault 2121" is the fifth game offered by Robert and Eric Anschuetz together with John Weisgerber for the Atari 8-bit computers.
Combining elements from classics like Missile Command (Atari, 1980) and Duck Hunt (Nintendo, 1984), we use a mobile cannon with lasers to prevent bombs falling from above from destroying radar antennas on the ground.
The game, originally written in BASIC in 1983, features smooth parallax scrolling and is notable for its clever algorithm for drawing random mountains and placing satellites on the terrain.
The authors claim that the code for "Alien Assault 2121" was sent to various magazines at the time, but none of them agreed to publish it. They admit that the original version could only be run from a cassette, and that it took several years to convert it to an ATR disk image, until they had the current version in assembly language.
Robert Anschuetz said they plan to release another ten games before the end of 2021. "We're going to pick up the pace over the last half of the year to make sure they all get released, so over the next few months we'll probably be releasing 2 games per month," he announced.in the AtariAge forum
