The Atari Bit Byter User Club (Germany) has opened registrations for its prestigious annual retro contest, which is celebrating its nineteenth edition in 2021.
«Varius», written by Holger "janzh" Janz (Germany), is the first program registered in the competition, in the software category. The player must slide colored tiles on a grid to combine them and form larger tiles.
After each move, a new tile of a darker shade will appear. The game ends if the highest color is reached (VICTUS); or if there is no free space for a new tile (EXITUS).

Interested parties can register their creations for Atari 8-bit computers until August 31. The rules prohibit the participation of commercial programs, those already published previously, or those that have participated in previous editions of the ABBUC. Likewise, the programs in the competition must be able to run on conventional Atari computers.
The prize money for this year amounts to 2,850 euros. Of this total, 850 euros will be distributed among the first 3 places. The remaining 2,000 euros will be distributed among the participants based on the number of points they obtain.
It is worth remembering that Last Squadron, a shoot'em up programmed by Janusz "Shanti77" Chabowski, was crowned thewinner of the ABBUC 2020, with 357 points
