Atariteca consulted one of the two developers involved in the long-awaited sequel to "Bruce Lee" (Datasoft, 1984) for Atari 8-bit computers.
As we reported before, Vidar “dmx” Bang released “Return of Fury” (ROF) in March 2019, a remarkable sequel to the Commodore 64 game, preserving the graphics, music and sound effects composition of the original title.
Although Bang dismissed any interest in porting his game to other platforms, he did add comments and tags to ROF's code. That encouraged Ute (USA) and Fantômas (France) to develop a level generator; and months later they presented "Eel Ecurb" (Bruce Lee in reverse), a version where the protagonist must return from the end to the starting point.
By August, Ute hoped to have a version ready by the end of October. However, the game is still in development to date. “I really wanted to get it out before the end of the year. But I have very limited time, and I really want everything to look and feel good,” Ute told Atariteca.
When asked about what hasn't been done yet, he stated that "there are just a few finishing touches left (…) mainly some bug fixes and some color and graphics adjustments. However, I don't have much free time," Ute said.
According to the images he provided us with - and which are included in this article - we are very close to having this incredible platform game soon. Also, let us remember that Fantômas was interested in making a port for Atari computers of "Bruce Lee II" - a sequel made in 2013 by Bruno R. Marcos.
"So that will probably be the next effort. Again, depending on the time available and it will likely require a lot more coding," Ute said.
