Last Squadron, a promising airplane game for Atari computers

Waves of enemies, power-ups and several suspiciously familiar aspects are what the vertical shooter Last Squadron offers for the Atari 8-bit computers.
The game, which is participating in the Atari Bit Byter User Club – ABBUC 2020 retro contest, is the product of just over a year of work by Janusz “Shanti77” Chabowski – known for the excellent port of Bosconian for the XL/XE series computers.
Two details catch our attention: in principle, the land isvery similar to the remarkable Terra Cresta(Nichibutsu, 1985); the player must even destroy a series of alien bases to accumulate parts - although unlike the spaceship game, here only firing power is gained.
Michal "Miker" Szpilowski contributed an energetic tune for the game's opening screen. However, the music in the game is almost identical to that of Terra Cresta, although many have associated it with Tyrian - considered the best shooter of all time.
Over the past few months, Chabowski has been posting various videos of the progress of Last Squadron. At the time, he hinted on the AtariAge forum that he might include bosses within the levels. In addition, the version registered at ABBUC appears to only work on hardware with PAL video mode.
Please note that registration for ABBUC 2020 closes on September 26. To date, there are thirteen programs in competition (twelve games and one demo).
