Short but challenging screens are what we get in the first playable demo of Hobgoblin 2, a conversion of the original BBC Micro game for Atari computers.

What is most striking about this edition of the platformer, a variant of the classic Ghost'n Goblins (Capcom, 1985), is the great graphic quality: up to five enemies, full of details, can be seen simultaneously; and their size is much larger than the first Hobgoblin.

Via the forum on AtariAge, Krzysztof "xxl" Dudek (code) highlights that the game engine is also much more advanced: collisions have been improved so that players do not fear losing energy and lives at the slightest contact with the various enemies and obstacles.

Dudek explains that this sequel works with a fixed screen memory, so he can make changes to the character set. “So I am not limited to 128 characters in the set; and I can still take advantage of some of the advantages of text mode and some detailed graphical operations can be performed faster.”

He added that, in the short term, he will find an experienced person dedicated to creating new levels for the game; since there is a level editor program that works in the Windows environment. Finally, he says that the full version will be presented at the Silly Venture 2020 retro festival, to be held next December.

It should be noted that this project also includes Jarek "Odyn1ec" Wyszyński (title and ending screens, game logo and loading animation), along with Adam Wachowski (graphics and level design), among others.
