Users of Atari 8-bit computers might be able to enjoy a future version of "Bruce Lee 2", a sequel to the immortal platformer "Bruce Lee" (Datasoft, 1984).
Through the AtariAge forum, Ute (USA) shared this weekend the first videos of the port of «Return of Fury» that he is developing, together with Fantômas (France).
As for his upcoming plans, Ute noted that his project partner was also interested in making a port of “Bruce Lee 2” for Atari. “So that will probably be the next effort. Again, it depends on the time available and it will probably require a lot more coding,” he said.
In 2013, Bruno R. Marcos released Bruce Lee II for Windows PCs. In addition to new scenarios, the game offers new enemies - including one that bears a strong resemblance to the fighter played by Jim Kelly in the legendary film Enter the Dragon. The hero must now swim, and can also stand on columns and trees.
Regarding the development of «Return of Fury», Ute pointed out that there is still much to do. «(There is) more animations, correct colors, making an ATR, making it safe for DOS, intro screen, music, etc. October will probably be the nearest (deadline); and even that could be optimistic», he told Atariteca.
He said that the Atari XL/XE version will be a real challenge for players, due to its higher level of difficulty: for example, the protagonist in the Atari has a slightly shorter jump than in the Commodore 64 original, so players will have to wait until the last pixel to successfully perform certain jumps.
Likewise, fire traps disappear from the screen when the lamps are collected. In this version they don't, so timing must be perfect. "I can finish the original game without losing a life. I can't do the same with this game (…) So it should be a great challenge," he concluded.
