The first complete level of the port of Wonder Boy (SEGA, 1986) for the Atari XL/XE series computers has just been published.

For this update, collisions were enabled and major obstacles such as skulls, fire, and chasms were added, as well as rocks that make the hero slip.

Also featured are the different types of fruit that restore the protagonist's energy. There is also the classic egg that contains the axe that we can throw at our enemies.

Also, if you lose a life, you will restart the game from the last section - identified by a sign - that you crossed.

"I'm not posting full notes detailing what works and what doesn't, as this is not a release candidate build, just a provisional one," Yaron Nir, who leads the project, warned via the AtariAge forum.

Nir challenged players to complete this first level. “Just before you reach the goal sign, take a screenshot and paste the result here. Let’s see who has the highest score.”

Konstantinos “TIX” Giamalidis (graphics and sprites) revealed that there are new versions of the skull, campfires, signs and ice blocks that have not yet been incorporated into the game.

Finally, some forum users have noted how difficult it is to accurately perform a mega jump - in the arcade version this is achieved by holding down the fire button, while in the Atari port, the joystick must be pressed forward several times.

It is worth remembering that "Popmilo" Jankovic (code), Michal "Miker" Szpilowski (music and SFX) and José Pereira (screens, maps and colorization) also participated in the development of this project.
