Three decades after its original release, Atari 8-bit computer users will finally be able to enjoy Prince of Persia, one of the titles that revolutionized the video game industry.

Originally released in 1989 by Brøderbund Software, Prince of Persia puts you in the role of a young adventurer who has one hour to rescue the princess before she is forced to marry the evil vizier Jaffar.

To create the original game, which has 15 levels, its creator Jordan Mechner applied rotoscoping: a laborious process that involves drawing on video frames, frame by frame, to obtain realistic movements. As you can see in the following video, he used images of his brother running, jumping and climbing in white clothes.

The project also includes Konstantinos "TIX" Giamalidis (Greece), known for his graphical mods and enhancements to titles such as Moon Patrol, Pitfall 2, Pole Position, Beef Drop, and Popeye, among others.

Rensoup says he is developing this conversion from the BBC Micro code and claims that it will be playable on an Atari computer with 128K of RAM - like the Atari 130XE computers. For the moment, he has preferred not to specify a date for the publication of the final version.
