Vladimir "John Von Neumann" Zúñiga (Chile) released this week the first playable demo of PERIL for Atari 8-bit computers.

This is a port of thefourth game he developed in 2018 for the Atari 2600 console. Just like in the original, the player must guide the little helicopter through a series of mazes, trying to avoid any collisions with the walls.

As if that were not enough, other elements - such as laser barriers - try to prevent the ship from advancing. The original version of PERIL has a total of 23 screens - apart from the screens ofintroand ofgame over. We even have to defeat four sub-bosses and a final boss.

This firstdemoIt has eight screens; however, Zúñiga told Atariteca that the final version "will probably have around 30."

"(The screens) will not be the same as the original, as each system can do different things and handle sprites differently. Currently, the (game) engine already does everything it is supposed to do (movement, shooting, point counting, time-based scoring, lives, etc. So there is no specific thing to implement; just design and add more levels andtune upgood speed," he emphasized.

It is worth remembering that, throughout last year, the Chilean programmer published theDrakko shooter, heplatformer Knight Guy in low res worldand the game ofLow Res Racer Cars

Regarding the possibility of also porting these games to Atari computers, "John Von Neumann" said that once PERIL is finished he will focus on another project.

"I will focus on finishing the port ofA Roachfor NES, and then start working on a version for XL/XE (...) Unless in the meantime I come up with an idea for another totally new game for Atari," he concluded.
