This weekend, Retronics opened pre-orders for the collector's version of "The Rescue Expedition," a colorful adventure game for Atari 8-bit computers.

The prolific programmer Kamil "Gorgh" Trzaska (Poland) heads this project, whose graphic appearance and plot remind us a lot of the classic Aztec (Datamost, 1982).

According to the game's second trailer, Scottish missionary David Livingstone must rescue English journalist Henry Morton Stanley; that is, the opposite of the original story, as the latter traveled through mysterious Central Africa in 1871 on an expedition to locate the missing Dr. Livingstone.

As you can see, the protagonist exploits a series of caves to face skulls armed with swords, zombies and giant spiders; in addition to avoiding sharp stalactites. He can use a knife and bombs to make his way through.

A special mention should be made of a whip that allows the hero to fight his enemies, but mainly to swing from and to any part of the screen.

"The game is already in production and can be ordered (...) it will be released on a cartridge, in a well-made box, accompanied by a fairly extensive manual with a historical introduction," says Jerzy Dudek, owner of Retronics, in a statement.Article published on the AtariOnline.pl portal

The first news about the game surfaced in May 2018, when Trzaska shared the trailer on the AtariAge forum and announced that it would be available towards the end of the European summer.

Now, a year later, "The Rescue Expedition" has a life counter, a weapon counter, a potion counter, a level counter and different colors; the stage includes deadly fire on the floor; the protagonist has a different design and we can accumulate coins.

Those interested can reserve a copy of "The Rescue Expedition" for 149 Polish zloty (about USD 49 or 39 euros) by writing to:Retronics ships worldwide.
