Keystone Kapers 2 for Atari 2600 in 2019

Among the new features for 2019, Atari 2600 console users will be able to enjoy the sequel to the classic Keystone Kapers (Activision, 1983).

The game is developed by Dan Kitchen, brother of programmer Garry Kitchen, who last June was able to recover the cartridge of the project he started 35 years ago.

Dan uses the character of Officer Kelly as the protagonist of his game - originally named Keystone Kannonball; and now called Dan Kitchen's Gold Rush!.

This time, the action takes place on a moving train, where the policeman - graphically transformed into the train driver - must catch a thief.

"The initial intention was for (fictional criminal) Harry Hooligan to make the transition from a small-time department store robber to a train robber. However, before I had a chance to continue working on the game, the (Atari) 2600 console market experienced a downturn and I moved on to other games," he said.

Some of the surprising features for the time are worth highlighting: 8 moving train wheels and several layers of parallax scrolling.

The game will be sold in cartridge form; additionally, there will be collector's versions, with a poster, box and signature by the author himself. Remember that Dan Kitchen is responsible for titles such as Crackpots, Double Dragon, Crossbow, Ghostbusters, Kung-Fu Master, River Raid II and Ikari Warriors for Atari 2600.
