To close 2017 on the best note, Mariusz "mariuszw" Wojcieszek and Terrence "Tezz" Derby presented this weekend their port of Jack the Nipper (Gremlin Graphics, 1986) for Atari 8-bit computers.
This is a unique adventure game where the protagonist is a child who must perpetrate the greatest number of jokes and pranks -measured in a "naughtyometer"- while trying to evade punishment from adults and contact with ghosts.
Via the AtariAge forumDerby explains that the graphics and gameplay were ported from the ZX Spectrum version, while the music was taken from the Amstrad CPC version.

"Both Mariusz and I have been working on the game for the past few months, preparing for this release in late 2017. A considerable amount of time has been spent rewriting the sprite/screen engine for a significant increase in game performance compared to other platforms," Derby highlights.

The game runs on standard computers with 64Kb of memory, and with both PAL and NTSC video systems. He also said that there will be an extra version for computers with 128Kb of RAM, taking advantage of the additional memory for caching pre-shifted/mirrored sprites.
