After four years of work, Adam "Muffy" Sokolowski is preparing to present "07 zglos sie" - translated from Polish as "Calling 07" - a text game for Atari computers.
According to Adam Wachowski, editor of the AtariOnline portal, this is an improved version of the original game in BASIC, which was released by an anonymous programmer for ZX Spectrum computers between 1989 and 1992.
07 zglos seven"It takes its name from a popular television series broadcast in the former People's Republic of Poland between 1976 and 1987, and which starred Slawomir Borewicz, commissioner of the Metropolitan Militia (as the Polish police preferred to be called) and whose code name in radio communications was precisely "07".
The game takes place during the communist era and is set in the Tuchola Forest, southwest of the city of Gdansk (Poland). Despite being on vacation, Lieutenant Toporny must track down a dangerous swindler. Each location is illustrated with vector graphics. A wrong choice usually ends in a serious accident, which immediately ends the adventure.

"The game was chosen by chance by Muffy, who wanted to start his first project for Atari, so it was best to start with a conversion of a simple game - text adventures are the least complex - into a gamebook style," explains Krzysztof A. Ziembik "KAZ", whom Sokolowski asked to help him with the Graph2Font program to port the simple ZX Spectrum graphics.
"Our discussions quickly turned to a decision that the Atari graphics could be much more interesting than the original," adds Ziembik, who ultimately opted to design new visuals.
Due to time constraints, the project progressed slowly until late last year, when it was discussed at a conference at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow on text-based games. Renowned musician Michal "Caruso" Brzezicki was subsequently brought in to contribute the ever-present title screen melody.

A preliminary version of the game was presented on September 2nd during the ACS meeting: the program was devoid of music and intros, but the players present were able to try out the controls. "We are also planning a similar demonstration for October 21st, during the upcoming (demo party) "Load Error", organized by the Polish Sachy," says KAZ. The final presentation will take place during the ninth edition of the Silly Venture 2017 festival, the largest retro festival of the year in Europe, which will take place from December 8th to 10th in the city of Gdansk (Poland).
It is worth noting that thanks to the management of "KAZ", the game is sponsored by theInstitute of the National Commission of Remembrance for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish NationZiembik has also left open the possibility of an English version of "07 zglos sie".
