Subtitles with Japanese lyrics, ready to sing karaoke style, is what a new version of the unique music video "Bad Apple!!" for Atari computers brings us.

This version, developed by Antonin "R0ger" Holik, only requires a standard Atari 64k computer, as well as an 8Mbit Maxflash or Ultimate cartridge.

Via the AtariAge forum, specified that the video is played at a constant 12.5 FPS and the resolution is 256x96. There are two versions of the music, in stereo (for devices with dual POKEY chips) and mono, with automatic detection.

"I spent half the time writing the tracks, playing with instruments, adjusting volumes, deciding channel assignments, all that crap... and the other half I spent researching limits and options for how to get the damn thing in tune. The demo actually uses RMT-modified frequency tables for the lead vocals."

He added that the demo was presented during PLatariada, an annual meeting organized by Atariklub since 1997, which this year took place from June 2 to 4 in the city of Ceské Budejovice, in the Czech Republic.

Unlike other similar events, Platariada does not focus on programming competitions. "It is above all a friendly meetup of people who know each other on the Internet," he says.the event website

Holik defended the horizontal lines seen in the video, saying that scanlines reduce the grid-like appearance of graphics, especially on CRT monitors. "Unfortunately, LCD monitors often over-process the image and the lines don't look right."

Regarding the demo itself, pressing the L key activates the on-screen lyrics; F activates scanlines mode; C lets you jump directly to the credits; and the space bar starts playing the video.

This is the second demo for Atari computers from Bad Apple!!, the first beingartwork by Paul "Playsoft" LayBy the way, we take this opportunity to clarify that ZUN -whom we had mistakenly pointed out as the interpreter of the song- is a developer of "danmakus" (very difficult shooting games) who releases his titles under the fictitious company "Team Shangai Alice".
