After more than a year and a half of work, Mariusz "mariuszw" Wojcieszek presented this Christmas his port of «Fairlight, A Prelude: The Light Revealed» for the Atari XL/XE computers.

The isometric adventure game, originally published by EDGE in 1985, puts us in the role of Isvar, who must find the Book of Light for a sorcerer in order to escape from the Avars castle.

As expected, the castle is populated by guards and monsters - trolls, monks, tornadoes, carnivorous plants, bubbles, etc. that weaken Isvar's energy. The castle also contains food and magic potions that will restore his health. When you defeat a guard, his helmet will remain behind. It is best to get rid of them, because when you re-enter the room, the guard will reappear under his helmet.

Wojcieszek says that "Fairlight" for the Atari 8-bit was based on the Commodore 64 version, with patches for input (joystick and keyboard), graphics and sound routines. However, he took the trouble to improve the code to speed up the game a bit. He also added a modetrainer-summoned by pressing the T key on the main screen- to give the protagonist immortality, access to all doors, and unlimited high jumps.

In his review on the AtariOnline.pl portal, Adam Wachowski points out that, unlike other isometric games, Fairlight has a realistic sense of objects on the screen: they can be moved, stacked, dropped from a height, and so on. Even their individual weight defines their behavior: although the protagonist has five pockets to carry things, the "weight" of each one defines its maximum capacity.

It should be noted that this conversion also involved José Pereira (design of the loading screen and title); and Bartholomew "Evening" Wieczorkowski (adaptation of music and sound effects). By the way, the game supports POKEY stereo sound, but works fine in mono. In addition, it requires 64KB of RAM; and runs fine on machines with PAL and NTSC video modes.

We cannot fail to mention that «Fairlight» is a game of great value for ZX Spectrum users - it even remained at the top of the charts on the World Of Spectrum portal for years.
