The AtariOnline portal released the results of the BASIC Tenliners 2016, the annual competition that seeks the best game programmed with a maximum of ten (10) lines of code in BASIC.
This year, a total of 89 games were entered for 13 different platforms, including 21 games for Atari 8-bit computers. These productions competed in three categories: "PUR-80" (each line of code with a maximum of 80 characters); "PUR-120" (maximum 120 characters per logical line); and "EXTREME-256" (maximum 256 characters per line).
In the PUR-80 category, 46 games participated, of which only two were for Atari: «Jump», by Jason "8BIT1337" Gruetzmacher, was placed third; while the puzzle «M*N Puzzle» by Chilean Victor "Vitoco” Parada took seventh place.
On the other hand, Atari 8-bit programs dominated the competition in the PUR-120 category: 22 participants and only eight from other platforms. Seven Atari productions led the ranking, with first place going to "Invaders", a clone of the classic shoot-em-up game by "Vitoco" Parada.
The same author took first place in the EXTREME-256 category with the remarkable "Where's my cheese?". This is a game in pseudo 3D perspective where you play a laboratory mouse looking for its cheese in a maze.
