Vladimir Janković "Popmilo" published the first video of the game he is preparing for the Atari 800XL computers, which is inspired by theMinicraft arcade(Ludum Dare, 2011).

"I'm working on sprite animation this week (...) In fact it (the game) is still far from being finished. There are a lot of interesting things that need to be done... I hopehave finished itin thenext two months", he said in theAtariAge Forum

MinicraftIt is an action game intwo dimensionsdeveloped by Markus Persson, creator of the popularMinecraftfor theLudum Dare No. 22, a competition ofvideo game programming in 48 hours. Similar to "The Legend of Zelda", the player travels through a world where he must cut down trees, open mines, fight zombies and build a shelter.

The project has generatedspecial interestWell, this is the first game that will use ablending technique(mixing different pixels) devised in 2012 by Janković, which is more effective in thePAL video mode

With thePAL blending, the optical illusion of an "average color" is obtained by placingtwo adjacent pixels(each with a different tone or brightness). According toexplains "Popmilo", in his technique the first line of160 pixels uses one of four tones(black, red, green, blue); and the second, one of four brightness levelsor lumas (0, 6, 10,14). The result is agraphic mode 7of 16 colors

The programmerLyren "Xuel" Brown prepared a demowhich uses the "Popmilo" technique; however, he clarifies that in this case theadvantage of emulatorto load information immediately every 40 milliseconds.

For their part, some forum members consider that this mode opens the possibility of havingversions of classic gameslike theR-Type shooteror theTurrican platformon our beloved Atari XL/XE.
