Through its website, the Australian company RPC Games announced that on July 7 it will publishCentron 3D, game for Atari XL/XE series computers
The company - practically unknown until a couple of months ago -released a series of images of the game, which stands out for the use of nNew graphical mode CMODE72, which -always according to RPC Games- allowsup to 72 colors on screenboth.
In "Centron 3D", you have 60 seconds todrive a DeLorean(yes, the car from the movie saga "Back to the Future") equipped with a device called "De-Resonizer", with which you cancollect spheres of different colors-each one, with a particular score. At the same time, you mustevade different obstaclessuch as mines and enemy ships that will drop bombs to annihilate you.
You havejust three livesto travel atotal of 23 levelswith full color graphics and four sound channels, where all the action takes place in apseudo 3D environment, in a mixture ofSpace Harrier(without the shooting) with Moon Patrol (because of the jumping over the mines). For now, RPC Games has said thatwill not accept pre-ordersuntil the official release date.
Among theScreens shared by the developer on the AtariAge forumThey feature an "updated" version of the game's intro, as well as a frame from the animation withTwo girls dancing at the end of each levelHowever, some forum members question thatthe imagescorresponding to the levels are -except for the background-practically all identical
It is worth noting that the successive announcements by RPC Games about "Centron 3D" have generated aUnusual controversy on the AtariAge forum. Most are skeptical of the promise of acommercial grade game(which will sell for $10 Australian dollars) that will push the hardware "to its limits."
