Although I consider myself a quasi-fundamentalist user of version 2.7 of the Atari800Win PLus emulator, here I explain how to install the latest and definitive version of the program - 4.0 - published in August 2005.
Download the Atari800Win PLus 4.0 emulator installer
First, you need to download the installer file from the Official website of the project:Download | 657 Kb
And if we don't have them already, we also have to download the following onezip (compressed) filewith the ROMs that the emulator will need.
Unzip the ROM files
Once both files have been downloaded, we must first unzip the named onexf25.zipwith the ROMs.
The contents of this file must be unzipped into a separate folder. I suggestcreate a foldergeneral "atari800", and inside it, place these files.

Install the emulator
Now, let's start theinstallation processfrom the emulator. We double click on the fileAtari800Win PLus 4.0.exethat we downloaded at the beginning. To start, we select thelanguagewith which we want to work in the installation.
We choose from the menu and press the buttonOK.The next screen welcomes us to theinstallation program

We simply press the buttonNext. Next, we must accept thelicense to use

We press the button that reads "I agree" (I accept). The screen that follows informs us that the program will be installed and, in addition, new files will be created.access iconsdirectly in theDesk(Desktop) and in theTaskbar(Quicktray). We recommend simply giving itNext

Now we are shown the path where the program will be installed. By default, it will be installed inside the folderProgram Files(Program Files) from the disk "C". If we wish, we can choose a different route with the buttonLook for(Browse).

By the way, the emulator requires just1.3 Mbto install. Once the route is determined, we press the buttonInstall(Install).

If everything went well, we will be shown the message "Installation Complete" and we can press the buttonNext. Then, a new window will inform us that we are ready to run the emulator. To do this, press the buttonFinish

Emulator Setup Wizard
After installation, the emulator offers us aConfiguration Wizard. The first screen asks us if we want to create shortcut icons in theHome Menu(Start Menu) and/or in theDesk(Desktop).
Once we have made our choice, we press the buttonNext. The next window is of utmost importance, as it allows uslocate the ROMsthat the emulator needs to work.

By default, ROMs are not selected. To locate them, press the buttonSearch. Next, we locatethe folder where we unzips the files - in this example, the folder was "atari800". We press the buttonOk.

After pressingNext, we are shown a list with the file types that will be associated with the emulator. You must select them all.

Finally, we press the buttonFinish. The emulator is shown to us in the remembered modeSelf Test

You will also see that the corresponding icon was created

Setting up the joystick in the emulator
As a die-hard game addict, your first urgency will surely beconfigure the joystick. For that, go to theMenuand continuesInput -> Joysticks
By default, the program is configured to use thenumeric keypad(on the right side of your keyboard, then) to play. My recommendation is to change to the second option:Arrows + RCtrl as firewith which they will be able to use thekeyboard arrowsto move; while theControl keyright (the one just to the left of the arrows) will serve as the fire button.

Loading games and programs into the emulator
To load a game or program, go to the menuFile; then choose the optionAttach disk. Then selectDrive 1
Obviously, you must have done this beforedownloaded gamesfrom somewhere on the Internet. The emulator will show you those in whichformatswhich supports (atr, xfd and similar). You can see theFull list here

Once we have selected the game of our preference, we go to "reset" the emulator, so that it runs the program. We press the keysSHIFT and F5.The screen will "flash" for a few moments as if it were Basic. This is normal. Then the loaded game is displayed.

Record our progress
Forrecord the progressFrom a game we are running, we go to the menuFileand we select the optionSave state, and thenNormal
We will then see a box to locate where the advanced game will be recorded. By default, the file name will be atarisav; this name can be changed to whatever we want. The extension, however, will always be.a8s. Click here for a detailed guideon howrecord and uploadthe advances.

Version 2.7 vs. 4.0
You might be wondering,And why do I prefer?version 2.7Very simple: it is what is calledportable. That is to say,No installation required. I have even found that every time I upgrade from 2.7 to 4.0, the latter asks me to reconfigure the ROMs and joystick. Finally, I only findtwo reasonsTo use version 4.0: activate the optionCheat ModeCheat Mode) and/or the option ofRecord video Save video). These two, however, will be the subject ofseparate articles
I installed everything, I open the game but I can't start it.
